Scouting the Lyons Area

Yesterday Joel and I had fun scouting part of a Big Day route with John Vanderpoel and Raymond Davis.  John is doing a Big Day on May 19th.  He and his team will be starting insanely early in Rocky Mountain National Park and ending on the Nebraska border in the middle of the plains.

We met up at Davis' house (about 300' lower in elevation than our house, but in the same neighborhood) at 8:30 AM this morning.  We scouted around his house, and then birded the Lyons area into the early afternoon.  We got over 60 species including yesterday's Green Heron.  At the same location as the Green Heron, John spotted a nice Eastern Phoebe.  It was a state bird for Joel and I and even a Boulder County bird for John!
